BFA Show: Opening Night

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Opening night for the Fall Undergraduate Exhibition was a huge success. My sources tell me that there was a record breaking attendance, weighing in at just under 3,000 people. If you came, then it was great seeing you. If you missed it, the show will run through November 22, 11:00 am - 6:00 pm, Tuesday-Saturday.

Mark your day planners everybody. I just got an email from school:

Goodbye Goodman

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

All done over at The Goodman. It’s been a long six months and you could say I got my money’s worth. I worked on Shining City, Talking Pictures, The Trip to Bountiful, The Ballad of Emmett Till, Gas for Less, and Ain’t Misbehavin’. Six months ago I had zero theater experience. I didn’t know what a ‘cue’ was and I didn’t know that I didn’t know what a cue was. Thanks to Dave, Nick, Lilly, and Steph for showing me the ropes.

I took a lot of pictures and decided to include some of what I think to be the best.

Technical rehearsal for Ain’t Misbehavin’. Notice the purple stage. During tech there’s a lot of downtime for both cast and crew so it’s good to have something to work on. If I had to title this picture it would be “Laptop Parallax.” (June 2008)

Real world fire drill. This was during tech of The Trip To Bountiful. What’s not in this picture is of importance: hundreds of employees shivering on the sidewalk. (Feb 2008)

During tech of Ain’t Misbehavin’. I like this picture because everyone is doing something. This is during a rare period when the house lights are up, a good time for a picture. (June 2008)

Chicago Blues Festival 2008

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Just got back from the 25th Anniversary Chicago Blues Festival in Grant Park. My friend Randall and I stayed for most of the afternoon and saw a wide variety of entertainment. There was a great mixture of old and young people on stage, people who were connected to the music bloodline and people who weren’t, and full blown polished bands to stages that had only one dude with a guitar and a microphone.

So I suppose the festival is one of those ’something for everybody’ ordeals. I for sure got my something but given my terrible memory have already forgotten the name of the two guys that lulled me into a stupor for over an hour. Never mind their name at the moment, the important part was watching people staight up rocking. That was quite rejuvenating. These guys had me dancing like, what Randall refers to as, ‘the 40-year-old mother who is comfortable in her own skin and wants everybody to know it.’

Dan made a mixtape

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

And now I would like to present a mixtape. I have compiled a collection of a wide variety of my own material, from melodic electronic to medieval theme song — some good-hearted tracks that probably would never have seen the light of day otherwise. I giggled when I found they fit together nicely.

I am excited about the new ability to release my own work but will be working towards more official releases in the future, whether it be by netlabel or nonnetlabel. This is a special gift from me to you.

Check it out here.
